You will be transferred to a hotel in Moshi in the base town for climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, where you will check in. Overnight at Chanya Lodge. Dinner and Breakfast. Day 02 | Machame Gate (1490m) – Machame Camp (2980m) Hiking time: 7 hours Distance: Approximately 18 kilometers Habitat: Montane Forest After an early breakfast at your hotel, you will be picked up from Moshi town (1400m) and driven to Machame gate. At the gate, the porters will organize and pack the belongings for the hike while you and your guide register with the Tanzania National Park (TANAPA). You will then begin your ascent into the rainforest. Day 03 | Machame Camp (2980m) – Shira Camp (3840m) Hiking time: 6 hours Distance: Approximately 9 kilometers Habitat: Moorland After an early morning breakfast, you will start your ascent leaving the rainforest and entering the heathland moorland vegetation. You will cross many streams and walk over a rocky ridge onto the Shira plateau that leads to Shira Camp (3840m). At this campsite, you will be next to a stream and have a spectacular view of the Western Breach and its glaciers in the East. Similar to the first night, your tents will be set up prior to arriving at camp and the porters will prepare drinking and washing water for you. You will enjoy evening snacks then dinner prepared by our chef. Be prepared for a cold night as temperatures drop below freezing at this exposed camp. MEALS: Lunch | Dinner | Breakfast ACCOMMODATION: Shira Camp Day 04 | Shira (at 3840m) – Barranco camp (at 3950m) Hiking time: 7 hours Distance: Approximately 15 kilometers Habitat: Semi-desert Following an early morning breakfast, you will leave the moorland environment and enter the semi-desert and rocky landscape. After 5 hours of walking east, you will come face to face with the Lava Tower (4630m). Packed lunches are served at the Tower and hikers have the option of climbing the massive Lava Tower weather permitting. At this point of the hike, it is normal for hikers to start feeling the effects of the altitude including headaches and shortness of breath. After lunch, you will descend from Lava Tower (4630m) to the Barranco Campsite (3950m). The 6800m descent gives hikers a huge advantage to allow their bodies to adjust to the conditions of high altitude. The descent to camp takes around 2 hours to reach. It is located in a valley below the Breach and Great Barranco Wall (“Breakfast Wall”). Drinking and washing water and dinner will be served as hikers view the sun setting MEALS: Lunch | Dinner | Breakfast ACCOMMODATION: Barranco Camp Day 05 | Barranco Camp (3950m) – Karanga Camp (3950m) Hiking time: 4-5 hours Distance: Approximately 5 kilometres Habitat: Alpine desert After an early morning breakfast, it is now time to conquer the Great Barranco Wall! Although it may look intimating at first glance, hikers state that this Class 2 hike is usually much easier than they anticipated. At the top of the Wall, you will have a view of Heim Glacier and will be above the clouds. The trail then winds up and down in the Karanga Valley. This is an ideal hiking day for acclimatization. MEALS: Lunch | Dinner | Breakfast ACCOMMODATION: Karanga Camp Day 06 | Karanga Camp (3959m) – Barafu Hut (4600m) Hiking time: 2-3 hours Distance: Approximately 4 kilometers Habitat: Alpine desert The following breakfast, you will leave Karanga Camp (3959m). The trail intersects with the Mweka Route, which is the trail used to descend on the final two days. As you continue hiking for an hour, you will reach Barafu Hut. This is the last water stop for the porters because there is no accessible water at Barafu Camp (4550m). The word “barafu” in Swahili means “ice” and this camp is located on a rocky, exposed ridge. Tents will be exposed to wind and rocks so it is important for hikers to familiarize themselves with the campsite before dark. An early dinner will be served so hikers can rest before attempting the summit the same night. Your guide will brief you in detail on how to prepare for summit night. Get to sleep by 19:00! MEALS: Lunch | Dinner | Breakfast ACCOMMODATION: Barafu Camp Day 07 | Barafu camp (4600m) – Uhuru Peak (5895m) – Mweka (3100m) Hiking time: 8 hours to reach Uhuru Peak, 7-8 hours to descend to Mweka Distance: Approximately 7 kilometre ascent and 23 kilometre descent Habitat: Stone scree and ice-capped summit Your guide will wake you around 23:30 for tea and biscuits. You will then begin your summit attempt. The route heads northwest and you will ascend over stone scree. During the ascent, many hikers feel that this is the most mentally and physically challenging part of the climb. In about 6 hours, you will reach Stella Point (5685m), located on the crater rim. After enjoying the magnificent

Day 01 | Rongai Gate to First Cave Elevation (m): 1950m to 2600m, Distance: 8 km, Time: 4 hours, Habitat: Montane Forest.  We will register at Marangu Park Gate and then transfer (approximately 2 ½ hours) to the Rongai trailhead. We will meet our porters before we begin our trek from the Nale Moru village. The small winding path crosses maize fields before climbing gently through a pine forest. The first night’s camp is at First Cave, at about 2600m altitude. Day 02 | First Cave to Kikelewa Cave Elevation (m): 2600m to 3600m, Distance: 9km, Time: 6 – 7 hours, Habitat: Moorland. The trail continues up towards Kibo, passing Second Cave (3450m), and reaching Kikelewa Cave at 3600m. From here the views start to open up and we will see for ourselves how huge a mountain Kilimanjaro really is. We overnight at Third Cave Camp (Kikelewa Cave). Day 03 | Kikelewa Cave to Mawenzi Tarn Elevation (m): 3600m to 4330m, Distance: 6 km, Time: 4 hours, Habitat: Moorland. A short but steep climb up grassy slopes is rewarded by superb all-round views and a tangible sense of wilderness. We leave the vegetation behind shortly before reaching the next camp at Mawenzi Tarn (4330 m), spectacularly situated in a cirque directly beneath the towering spires of Mawenzi. The afternoon will be free to rest or explore the surrounding area as an aid to acclimatisation. Day 04 | Mawenzi Tarn Elevation (m): 4330m, Habitat: Moorland. We will spend an extra day at Mawenzi Tarn to acclimatize. We will be able to trek and explore around Mawenzi Tarn and also rest ready to continue our trek up Kilimanjaro tomorrow. Day 05 | Mawenzi Tarn to Kibo Camp Elevation (m): 4330m to 4750m, Distance: 4 km, Time: 3 hours, Habitat: Alpine desert. We cross the lunar desert of the ‘Saddle’ between Mawenzi and Kibo to reach Kibo campsite (4750m) at the bottom of the Kibo crater wall. The remainder of the day is spent resting in preparation for the final ascent tomorrow! Day 06 | Kibo Camp to Summit to Horombo Hut Elevation (m): 4750m to 5895m to 3720m, Distance: 6 km ascent/16km descent, Time: 6-8 hours ascent/4-5 hours descent Habitat: Stone scree and ice-capped summit. We will rise around 23.30 hours and after some tea and biscuits we will start our ascent. This is where the going really gets tough. The first section of the trail consists of a rocky path to the Hans Meyer Cave (5150m). We then zigzag up to Gillman’s point (5681m), on the crater rim. This section is very steep with much stone scree and is the most demanding section of the route. From Gillman’s Point we could encounter snow all the way up to Uhuru Peak (5895m), the highest point in Africa. Weather conditions on the summit will determine how long we can spend, taking photographs, before we descend back to Kibo Hut and then Horombo where we will stay overnight. Later in the evening we enjoy our last dinner on the mountain and a well-earned sleep. Day 07 | Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate Elevation (m): 3720m to 1980m, Distance: 18 km, Time: 6 hours  Habitat: Montane Forest. We descend down to the Marangu Gate to receive your summit certificates. 06 Days Mt. Kilimanjaro | Umbwe Route

Climb Overview | Mt. Kilimanjaro climb, a journey that promises not just a summit triumph but an immersive experience in Tanzania’s natural wonders. Our expert-guided trek begins at the iconic Machame Gate, winding through diverse landscapes from lush rainforests to alpine deserts. As you ascend, be prepared for awe-inspiring views of glaciers and vast plains. Our carefully crafted itinerary allows for acclimatization, increasing your chances of reaching Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Detailed Itinerary This itinerary is a general guide; actual trekking times and camps may vary. Adequate acclimatization is crucial, and the itinerary allows for gradual altitude gain. You’ll be accompanied by experienced guides and a dedicated team, you’ll not only conquer Kilimanjaro but forge lasting memories against the breathtaking backdrop of this majestic mountain. Join us for a transformative adventure that goes beyond the summit—a true exploration of self and nature. Day 01 | Arrive in Tanzania Arrive in Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha. Meet your guide for a briefing and equipment check. Relax and prepare for the climb. Day 02 | Umbwe Gate (1,600m) to Umbwe Cave Camp (2,850m) Distance: ~10.5km / 6.5 miles Trekking time: 5-7 hours Zone: Rainforest The Umbwe Route departs from the south. Most trekkers get driven from Moshi or Arusha to the Machame Gate, where registration takes place. From there, trekkers are transferred to the Umbwe Gate at 1,600 meters. Here you will start your trek with your guide and porters in tow. The route follows a forestry track through the rainforest before steepening between the Lonzo and Umbwe Rivers. If the weather is clear you will get a good view of Kibo in the distance. It takes approximately 5-7 hours to reach Umbwe Cave Camp at 2,850 meters; 10.5km / 6 miles from your starting point. The camp sits between large evergreen trees and thick undergrowth, with Umbwe Cave a short walk away. On arrival your tents will already be assembled and dinner will be served in your mess tent. MEALS: Lunch | Dinner | Breakfast ACCOMODATION: Umbwe Cave Camp Day 03 | Umbwe Cave Camp (2,850m) to Barranco Camp (3,900m) Distance: ~6.5km / 3.5 miles Trekking time: 4-6 hours Zone: Low-alpine zone On Day two the landscape changes rapidly from rainforest to moorland, with rocky outcrops and sparse vegetation. The path follows the narrow Umbwe Route ridge until it begins to flatten close to the Barranco Valley. The Barranco Camp (3,900 meters) sits in the valley under the shadow of the Great Barranco Wall with Kibo visible in the distance. You will notice the camp is pretty busy. This is because you will be joining hikers from the Machame, Lemosho and Shira Route here. MEALS: Lunch | Dinner | Breakfast ACCOMODATION: Barranco Camp   Day 04 | Barranco Camp (3,900m) to Karanga Camp (3,960m) Distance: 6km / 3.5 miles Trekking time: 4-6 hours Zone: Low-alpine zone / High-alpine zone Day three starts with a steep climb up the 257 meter Barranco Wall. No technical skills are required but you will need to use all four limbs to scramble up to the top. From here you will follow an up and down route along the Southern Circuit (see Umbwe Map above) through the Karanga Valley and up to Karanga Camp (3,960 meters). You will stop at Karanga Camp for the night, unless you are on a five day route, in which case you will continue on to Barafu Camp (4,670 meters). MEALS: Lunch | Dinner | Breakfast ACCOMODATION: Karanga Camp Day 05 | Karanga Camp (3,960m) to Barafu Camp (4,670m) Distance: 3.5 km / 2 miles Trekking time: 4-5 hours Zone: High-alpine zone Day four is a relatively short climb from Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp at 4,670 meters. The route sojourns through the rocky and sparsely vegetated high alpine desert zone. Barafu Camp is very exposed to the elements, especially the gale force winds that are common at this altitude. You will arrive at the camp around lunchtime, giving you lots of time to rest or potentially climb a bit higher if you are feeling up to it. Many people have lost their appetite by this stage in the trek but it is important that you try to eat some food. Set an hour aside to ensure that your gear is ready and packed for the summit ascent which begins around midnight.  Don’t forget to carry additional batteries for your headlamp and camera, and remember to make sure your water bottles are well insulated (wrapping them in an extra pair of warm socks works well). Try get to bed before 19:00 as you will be awoken around 23:30 to begin your summit attempt. MEALS: Lunch | Dinner | Breakfast ACCOMODATION: Barafu Camp Day 06 | Barafu Camp (4,670m) to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) Distance: ~4.5km / 3 miles ascent and then 11km / 7 mile descent Trekking time: 6-8 hours to the summit and then 5-8 hours to Mweka Zone: Glacial zone and the all preceding zones After being awoken with hot tea and biscuits you will set off up the heavily screed slopes of Kibo. The route up to the carter rim is long and arduous! Your physical and mental capacities will be seriously tested. It is important to remain focused on your goal, one step at a time. Around dawn you will reach Stella Point (5,739 meters) at the top of the crater rim.  This is not the summit but is a major milestone. Take a moment to rest and enjoy where you have got to but don’t lie down as this can stymie your final push to the summit. From Stella Point the route flattens as you walk an additional 1-2 hours to Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters). You will not be able to stay too long at the summit as the lack of oxygen and cold is debilitating. Make sure to get all the pictures and video footage you want and then make your way back to Stella Point. Many trekkers decide to scree slide down the slopes of Kibo

5 Days Mount Kilimanjaro Bike tour

Climb Overview | Mt. Kilimanjaro climb, a journey that promises not just a summit triumph but an immersive experience in Tanzania’s natural wonders. Our expert-guided trek begins at the iconic Machame Gate, winding through diverse landscapes from lush rainforests to alpine deserts. As you ascend, be prepared for awe-inspiring views of glaciers and vast plains. Our carefully crafted itinerary allows for acclimatization, increasing your chances of reaching Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Detailed Itinerary Accompanied by experienced guides and a dedicated team, you’ll not only conquer Kilimanjaro but forge lasting memories against the breathtaking backdrop of this majestic mountain. Join us for a transformative adventure that goes beyond the summit—a true exploration of self and nature. Day 01 | ARRIVAL Arrive at Kilimanjaro International / Arusha Airport where our Kilimanjaro climbing expert will meet you outside the arrival hall and usher you into a waiting transfer car that is private for you. You will be transferred to a hotel in Moshi in the base town for climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, where you will check in. Overnight at the Lodge. Meals:  Dinner | Breakfast ACCOMMODATION: Panama Garden Resort Day 02 | Moshi – Kilema Camp (2950m) It is important to remember that the biggest cause of altitude sickness is ascending too high too quickly. We will be stopping regularly and to give your body the maximum time to adjust to the higher altitudes. We will aim to reach Horombo hut at around 15:00pm. We will stop at Horombo Hut for a short break, before commencing on a downhill cycle to Kilema camp. Descending approximately 800m over 7km, the track has a lot of loose rocks and it is important to control your speed and avoid unnecessary risks! Upon arrival your porters will have your tent set up at camp and in the evening bring a small bowl of washing water to your tent. The cook will prepare dinner, before you retire to your tent for the night. Night temperatures can already drop to freezing point at this camp. Meals:  Dinner | Lunch | Breakfast ACCOMODATION: Kilema Camp Day 03 | Kilema camp(2950m) – Horombo hut(3705m) After breakfast, make sure your duffel bag is packed and we cycle from the Kilema camp to Horombo hut. The trail is steep and has a lot of loose rocks at certain areas. Horombo hut is a village of huts perched on a small plateau, with a total capacity of 120 climbers! Normally bustling with hikers, guides, porters and with an atmosphere of adventure and excitement. You will meet both ascending and descending hikers here. We arrive in time for a late lunch at Horombo hut. After lunch collect our bikes and go for an 1,5-hour acclimatization cycle up to Zebra rocks (4 040m) and back. Enjoy dinner and overnight at Horombo hut. Meals:  Dinner | Lunch | Breakfast ACCOMODATION: Horombo Hut Day 04 | Acclimatization Day After an early breakfast, meet your guide and start your ascent into the Alpine desert habitat. The first 3 km of the trail is very rocky and cycling will be very difficult as this section is very stony and eroded. You will be forced to push and carry your bike for some sections, but after about 3km the trail improves and cycling will once again be possible. The “Saddle” (which refers to the area located between the peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo) is relatively flat and cycling is much easier. However high altitudes, low oxygen levels and cold conditions make the 7km section towards Kibo hut strenuous and challenging. The final km before reaching Kibo hut is especially strenuous. You will once again be reminded to slow down and drink enough water! Upon arrival to at Kibo hut lunch will be served. After lunch we will embark on an awesome Kilimanjaro Mt downhill, descending nearly 800m over 7km. The final 3km descend down to Horombo hut is very technical and challenging. Meals:  Dinner | Lunch | Breakfast ACCOMODATION: Horombo Hut Day 05 | Kibo hut (4730m) – Uhuru Peak (5895m) You will rise around 22h00, and after some tea and biscuits you shuffle off into the night, and this is where the going really gets tough. The first section of the trail consists of a rocky path to the Hans Meyer Cave (5150m), also a good resting spot. The path then zigzags up to Gillman’s point (5 681m), which is located on the crater rim. The section just before Gillman’s point known as “Jamaica rocks” is very steep with a lot of stone scree, boulders requiring a great physical and mental effort. From Horombo hut up to Gillman’s point the trail cannot be cycled and you will have to push your bike up to the Jamaica rocks, however from Jamaica rocks to Gillman’s point, you will have to carry your bike (or if you are not up to it – arrange for a porter to carry your bike). With oxygen levels close to 9.5%, this is probably the most demanding section of the entire route. You will be doing the Kilimanjaro shuffle and move very slowly.
