04 Days Mount Meru Climb

Detailed Itinerary The day concludes at Miriakamba Hut (2515 m), nestled in a picturesque glade with panoramic views of the plains towards Kilimanjaro. This Mount Meru climb promises a perfect blend of wildlife, diverse ecosystems, and awe-inspiring scenery, making it a must for avid adventurers. Day 01 | Arusha – Momella gate – Mariakamba Hut Hiking time: 5-6 h Distance: 14 km Ascent: 950 m Embark on a morning hike from your lodge to Arusha National Park’s Momella Gate (1580 m), guided by an armed ranger. Traverse open grassland, spotting buffalo and warthogs. The climb through Montane forest offers glimpses of wildlife like Black and White Colobus monkeys. Pause for lunch at the Fig Tree arch or Maio Waterfalls, surrounded by diverse birdlife. Descend to the crater floor, marveling at towering cliffs and the Ash Cone, before reaching Miriakamba Hut (2515 m) for a relaxing evening with stunning views of the plains towards Kilimanjaro. Meals: Breakfast| Lunch | Dinner   ACCOMMODATION: Mariakamba Hut Day 02 | Miriakamba Hut (2514 m) to Saddle Hut (3566 m) Hiking time: 4-5 h Distance: 6,5 km Ascent: 1050 m The trek from Miriakamba Hut to the Saddle Hut which lies just below Little Meru is a short day but a steep climb. You slowly ascend through the lush Montane forest to reach the halfway point of Elephant Ridge Mgongo wa Tembo – apparently, an elephant fell into the crater here!). From here you can enjoy excellent views of the summit ridge and across the crater floor. The path continues in a serpentine fashion steadily upwards through giant heather and other fascinating moorland vegetation to reach Saddle Hut (3566 m) where lunch will be provided. After a short break, you will proceed to ascend Little Meru (3801 m) as part of your acclimatization program. If you are lucky and the weather is clear you will be rewarded with stunning views across the Maasai plains towards Kilimanjaro. Meals: Breakfast| Lunch | Dinner   ACCOMMODATION: Saddle Hut Day 04 | Saddle Hut – Summit Attempt – Miriakamba Hut Hike distance 5km ascent + 18km descent, 4 – 5 hrs ascent + 6-8 hours descend, 1000m ascent, Altitude: 4566m Your guide will wake you at 00:30 for tea and biscuits. You will then begin your summit attempt at 1:30 am. The trail starts off on a steep grade from Rhino Point (3800 m) to Cobra Point (4350 m). In the last hour of the hike, you will scramble on a rocky ridge between the crater and inner cliffs of Meru. You will reach the summit of Meru (4565 m) at sunrise with spectacular views of Mt. Meru Ash Tray and Mt. Kilimanjaro. Enjoy your views then descend to Saddle Hut for a short break. You will then continue descending to Miriakamba Hut (2500 m) for dinner and overnight. Meals: Breakfast| Lunch | Dinner   ACCOMODATION: Mariakamba Hut Day 05 | Miriakamba Hut – Momella Gate – Arusha Duration: 2-3 hours of hiking 1100m Descend After a long rest and breakfast, we will begin our final descent to Momella gate. We will hike through forests and meadows where it is likely to spot wildlife. At the base of Mt. Meru, you will be greeted by our driver who will take you back to Arusha where you will be dropped off at your booked hotel. Day 01 | Arrival Nairobi, Kenya On this arrival day you will be met at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi by our Representative who will take to your hotel within the City for your first night, with pre-safari briefing on your way and arrival at the hotel. You will then be left to relax at your hotel. Overnight at The Sarova Staley Hotel. Booked on Bed and Breakfast. Day 02 | Masai Mara Breakfast at the hotel then you will be transferred to Wilson Airport for your morning flight to the Masai Mara Game Reserve. You will be met at the Airstrip in Masai Mara on arrival by your safari guide who will be your private guide for the Kenyan side. He will help oad your luggage in a waiting 4×4 safari jeep and you will head to the lodge / camp for lunch with game viewing on the way. After lunch we go for an afternoon game drive then check in back at the lodge/ camp for dinner and overnight. Overnight at Sand River Masai Mara Camp. All meals included. Day 03 – 05 | Full day Masai Mara During these days you can go for a sunrise game drive if you wish to spot some nocturnal animals as they retire back to their hiding after a night out of hunting or simply have a relaxed breakfast in the morning at your own pace. You will then head out for a full day of game drives after breakfast with Picnic lunch included or with a lunch break at the camp for  hot unch and some rest. Day 06 | Masai Mara – Isebania Border – Serengeti After an early breakfast, check out and head to Isebania Border for Tanzanian visas. Cross over to Tanzania, where our guide takes over (Note: 4×4 safari jeeps change at the border). Drive through Nyamongo Village and Mugumu to enter Serengeti National Park via Fort Ikoma gate in the afternoon. Explore Northern Serengeti with sunset game drives around Kogatende and Mara River. Check in at Sayari Camp for relaxation, dinner, and an overnight stay. All meals included. Day 07 | Northern Serengeti If you wish you can do an early morning game drive then after breakfast leave the lodge/ camp with lunch boxes and spend the full day in the endless plains of Serengeti ; the largest National Park in Tanzania. You will expect to spot lots of animal and birds species that you might have missed at Masai Mara. Overnight at Sayari Camp. All meals included. Day 08 – 09 | Safari in Central Serengeti National Park After a leisurely breakfast at your camp ou will check out from your camp in Kogatende, Northern Serengeti and cross through the Eastern Serengeti with game drives on your way towards Central Serengeti. On these days too you can decide to do only the morning and sunset game drives with mid day break at your lodge for hot lunch and relaxtion. Please discuss the next day’s schedule with you guide each evening. Overnight at Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti. All meals included. Day 10 | Serengeti – Ngorongoro Conservation Area Breakfast at the camp then you will check out for one last game drive at the Central Serengeti / Seronera area before heading south through the Central Serengeti and crossing in the afternoon through Naabi Hill Gate to access teh Ngorongoro Conseravtion Area. You will be driven to the Crater rim where you will check in at a lodge at the Crater rim for relaxation dinner and overnight. Overnight at Ngorongoro Crater Lodge. All meals included. Day 11 | Ngorongoro Crater tour After breakfast you descend into the Crater for a wonderful game drive (with a picnic lunch on the crater Floor. With a bit of luck the Big Five can be spotted during one game drive only. Later in the afternoon you will be taken back at your lodge on the Crater rim to enjoy the magnifiscent views over the Crater floor. Overnight at Ngorongoro Crater Lodge. All meals included. Day 12 | Ngorongoro – Tarangire National Park After breakfast at your lodge at the Crater rim you will be on your way out of the Ngorongoro Conseravtion Area through Loduare Main Gate and drive down the winding road which takes you down the Great Rift Valley wall to the floor of the rift valley. Dinner and overnight at Oliver’s Camp Tarangire. All meals included. Day 13 | 2nd Day at Tarangire Breakfast at your camp then you will  head out again into the wilderness of the Tarangire National Park for another full day of game drives in the park. Day 01 | Arrival This day is set aside for your arrival into Tanzania and our representative meets you on arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport. He or she will transfer you to your lodge around Arusha either at Planet Lodge in Arusha town. Day 02 | Tarangire National Park After a long flight to Africa we usually recommend starting easy while also cutting down the distances and so after breakfast you will be picked up and transferred to Tarangire National Park in a 4×4 Safari jeep.  At Tarangire we register at the gate and continue with game drives for the rest of the day as we explore the African wilderness for the first day of our safari. Day 03 | Tarangire – Ndutu Plains/South Serengeti Breakfast at the lodge, or Camp early this morning and we are off to Ndutu plains for the migration safari in Southern Serengeti. We will have a brief stop at the Loduare Main Gate before entering the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, an another brief stop to take pictures and get some stunning views over the Ngorongoro Crater floor. We will then drive further to Lake Ndutu area where the action takes place during the months of December through March. Picnic will be served and the afternoon will be spent doing game drives until later in the afternoon time to check in at the lodge or camp for dinner and overnight. Overnight Sero Tented Camp Ndutu . All meals included. Day 04 & 05 | Ndutu Plains Calving Safari These 2 more days will be spent at the Ndutu plains within the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Ndutu plains is where it all happens in the month of January to March as the wildebeests Migration give birth to thousands of young calves every day. At Ndutu plains with the green pastures during this time of the year and the rich mineral soils that the herds adore you are sure to see the thousands of wildebeests accompanied by zebras, and gazelles spread along vast areas, as well as have the rare chance to witness some real wildlife action as the predators engage the herds and try to snatch their loved newly born foals.  Ndutu is also an amazing place to be for the avid bird watchers with 400 recorded resident and migratory bird species recorded. Overnight at Sero Tented  (Ndutu) Camp. All meals included. Day 06 | Ndutu – Serengeti National Park It is worthy visiting the Serengeti National Park having come this far. We will stop briefly at Naabi Hill gate for registration then the rest of the day will be spent doing game drives in the endless plains. Game drives will go on until late in the afternoon when you will check in at Mbalageti Safari Camp / lodge rooms. All meals included. Day 04 | Full day at Serengeti Early morning game drive is a good option this day tosspot the nocturnal species and the diurnal ones as they rise for a new day. During the morning also many animals will easily be spotted by the tracks sides as they escape the morning dew, and the enjoy the songs of the rising birds. Day 05 | Ngorongoro Crater After breakfast at the camp we set off for Ngorongoro Conservation. On arrival we descend into the Crater floor for game drives for the rest of the day checking in at the lodge in the late afternoon by 6.00 PM. Ngorongoro Crater also called the Eden of Africa is the only place where you can spot the Big Five in one day with very little luck. Day 06 | Fly to Zanzibar After breakfast at the lodge you will spend some leisurely time at the lodge then check out by mid morning and drive to Arusha Airport for your flight to Zanzibar. Day 02 | Tarangire National Park The tour starts with a drive to the third largest national Park in Tanzania and that is Tarangire. With a lunch box carried from Arusha you will have that chance to do game drives the whole day. This day will be spent on the Savannah plains in search of wild animals including zebras, elands, impalas, gazelles, and the rare species of Kudus. Large herds of elephants are also one of Tarangire highlights as well as the large baobab trees. Overnight will be at the Sangaiwe Tented Lodge with an amazing view over the Tarangire plains that draws hundreds of animals. All meals included. Day 03 | Tarangire to Serengeti National Park After an early morning breakfast you are off to Serengeti National park. Driving through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, you will enter the Serengeti via the Naabi Hill gate and go ahead with game viewing en route to the lodge or tented camp. If you are interested; you will have a brief stop at The Olduvai Gorge to witness the excavations of the Leakey’s family who discovered some human fossils of the Australopithecus Boisei, a discovery that led to the belief that indeed first man dwelt in Africa. Your overnight will be at Mbalageti Safari Camp / Lodge rooms. All meals included Day 04 | Two more days at Serengeti National Park Early morning game drive is a good option in these days to spot the nocturnal species and the diurnal ones as they rise for a new day. These days are spent at the Serengeti plains doing game drives. Here you have the choice to do the early morning game drives if you so wish. This will give you the chance to see nocturnal species retire from a night out as well as the diurnal majority waking up for a new day. Overnight at Mbalageti Safari Camp / Lodge rooms. All meals included. Day 05 | Serengeti – Ngorongoro After breakfast we drive back via the Naabi Hill gate to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. On arrival we will descend 600 mts down the Crater wall to the floor of the World’s greatest unbroken Caldera for a wonderful day of game drives. The Ngorongoro Crater is world renowned for the highest concentration of animals and it is here where you get the greatest chance of spotting the Big five in one day. A world biosphere reserve the Crater was declared a world heritage site by the United Nations body UNESCO. Among other animals you will see lions, cheetahs, zebras, warthogs, silver back jackals etc. Later in the afternoon before dark we drive to the Crater rim to check in at Country Lodge. Day 06 | Back to Arusha If you like being active it is time to go for a nature walk in the Ngorongoro Crater forests guided by an armed ranger, or go for a dance with Masai people at their village while you learn something about their culture and traditions.  Depending on your schedule you will be transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport for departure.
